Dr. Amy Skinner, LPC/MHSP
Amy is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Tennessee and an Approved Clinical Supervisor. She received her Bachelors degree from the University of Alabama and her Masters and PhD from Mississippi State University. She has been a director of a counseling center, a rehabilitation counselor, and she trained counselors at the University of Tennessee as a tenured professor for 16 years. She has been in the counseling field for over 23 years, providing services to students and adults.
Amy specializes in individual therapy tailored to her client's unique concerns. She believes everyone has within themselves the capacity for growth and healing and she strives to provide a safe place for you to find your strengths and possibilities. She has had specific success in anxiety and depression management; mental health/wellness management; issues specific to women in transition; disability adjustment; and high school and college student transition and career issues. She also focuses on working with Veterans and the LGBTQ population. Her primary approach is is to borrow from several different theories to meet her client's needs, but she often draws techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and solution-focused therapies.
Amy is also an LPC approved supervisor and can work with clinicians pursuing their licensure.
