Hannah Wood, LPC/MHSP (t), NCC

Hello! My name is Hannah Wood, and I am thrilled to be working at Knoxville Counseling Services. My journey to becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor has not been a straight one, but through every twist and turn my desire to work with adolescents has never wavered. After spending the past 10 years as a public high school teacher, it became clear that my place was not in front of a classroom teaching the masses but instead working one on one with an individual as they work out who they are and how to navigate their life. Fred Rogers, better known as Mister Rogers, said, “Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary.”

I am currently working toward licensure after graduating with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health from Liberty University. Within sessions I am person-centered and eclectic pulling from modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to aid the client in identifying their own thoughts and feelings and discovering how they impact their behavior. When working with children we use play because through play a child can communicate and express themselves in a fundamental way which fosters growth.

In our sessions you can expect to be treated with respect, unconditional positive regard, and kindness. Although I am rooted in my faith as a Christian, I commit to a safe environment where YOUR personhood and personal values are known and honored. When I am not in the therapy room, I enjoy spending time in my many, many fandoms such as Marvel, Harry Potter, and Star Wars. Whether it is through reading a book, playing a video game, or watching them on a screen, there are always new places to explore. I am the proud Aunt of one niece (with another on the way) and 4 nephews, and I count it an honor to love and spoil them. I enjoy spending quality time with my friends, talking and laughing, and on my own you’ll often find me reading, working a jigsaw puzzle, and petting my cat, Aslan.
