Stacy Gruhn, LPC/MHSP, NCC

Stacy Gruhn is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC-MHSP) in the State of Tennessee, as well as a board-approved National Certified Counselor (NCC). Stacy received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Auburn University and her Master of Science in Counseling from Troy University.

Stacy has worked with clients of all ages in a variety of settings including non-profit, community mental health and group counseling practices, but she has spent much of her time over the years working with children and adolescents. The topics that Stacy most frequently works with in counseling include anxiety, depression, behavior concerns, adjustment issues, relationship concerns, as well as clients with abuse or trauma history. Stacy currently sees clients ages 8 and up.

Stacy’s approach to counseling is client-focused, and she draws on her knowledge and training in different modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to provide the type of therapy that she believes would best work for each individual client. When working with children and adolescents, Stacy frequently uses both play therapy and art therapy techniques as children and adolescents often respond better to these than they response to traditional talk therapy. Stacy is also able to offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to those clients who are struggling with past trauma, troubling memories, or just feel “stuck” with some of their past experiences. When working with children and adolescents, Stacy likes to involve their families or caregivers in the therapeutic process, when she believes it would be beneficial, since she knows that the family is typically their primary support system.

When not working with her clients, Stacy enjoys those rare quiet nights at home with her husband and their four children, but, for the most part, can be found driving her kids around to their various activities and cheering them on at their many extracurricular events.

It is Stacy’s desire for her clients that through their counseling experience, they will be able to live more healthy, happy, and full lives, and that they will be better able to cope with and grow through whatever difficulties they face both now and in the future.
